Memory of the Earth: Paintings by Susan Coley

January 23–December 12, 2025
In partnership with the Wallace Library, we are thrilled to share Susan Coley’s work with the Wheaton community and beyond. Please visit the Wallace Library website for hours. The exhibition is open to the public when the Library is open. The library hours are dependent on the College calendar.
A member of the Class of 1979, Susan L. Coley majored in psychology at Wheaton College. After graduation, Coley earned a Master of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from Tufts University. She then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy before earning a Diploma in Studio Art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Coley’s artistic practice draws on a range of media and techniques, but is primarily focused on abstract painting. She describes her work as “rooted in intuition” and strives to “invoke the subconscious mind through figural forms, geometries, landscapes, fields of color and private calligraphic languages.”
A resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Coley is represented by the Boston-based Galerie d’Orsay. She exhibits her work throughout the United States and abroad and her paintings are held in public and private collections.
